Tommy J. Said it Best
When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny.
This article is from the original Chicano in Paris recently moved here to its new home.
I’ve been seeing the above meme a lot lately. Like a lot, A LOT. And every single time I see it I roll my eyes to the back of my skull and then all the way around again. That’s impossible you say? Far more possible than we the people of the United States ever having the gumption to become 1788 France.
Huddle up, America, lemme tell you a few things. You’re soft. You’re touchy feely and think reason and etiquette are going to get you anywhere in spite of everything you’ve seen to the contrary. You cannot reason with a man like the Orange Troglodyte™. You cannot reason with a group of narcissists in red hats. You cannot reason with a billionaire who gets away with throwing up a Nazi salute while you all do what? Whine about it?
Nah, you are not ready to become 1788 France. You can’t even muster up the stones to become 1776 America. Because here’s the thing you sweet naive little idealists fail to realize: 1788 France was a country full of Luigi Mangiones.
Are you willing to be more Luigi?
Those guillotines didn’t operate themselves. Those rich aristocrats didn’t willingly remove their own heads.
You are most definitely not on that level, America. Hell, some of you are nervous that just reading this is going to put you on a list. Maybe it will. A list of feckless posers who won’t do anything, but a list all the same.
Rudy, you can’t be advocating the American people go out hunting for oligarchs and remove their mouth breathing mechanism from the rest of their person.
No, of course not. Violence is never the answer. I mean, except when it lead to the formation of the United States, or when it lead to France overthrowing their own oligarchical overlords. But other than that, violence has never resolved anything.
I am simply making an observation. America doesn’t have the balls to go full France 1788.
In fact, I will it take a step further and say the United States doesn’t have the balls to go France 2023.
What happened in 2023 you ask?
Well, in June an unarmed boy of seventeen was shot and killed by a police officer.
Then France went, well, 1788. They protested, they rioted, they lit police departments and cities halls on fire and chased a police chief out of his home.
Can you see something like that ever happening in the United States? Nah.
Meanwhile, the cops haven’t killed an unarmed citizen since and the cop that did the killing was arrested and awaiting trial.
Thomas Jefferson was right: the government is supposed to be afraid of its people, not the other way around (paraphrased). So what are you gonna do about it, America? Post more strongly worded memes? Right.
