Since I was a kid I have loved looking up at the moon. When she’s at her fullest I love her the most. I stare at the rabbit in the moon and wonder how she got there. I sometimes ask people if they see the rabbit, too. Some see something that ‘looks like it could be a rabbit,’ and others see nothing more than a shadow or a smudge. I can’t remember the exact moment I first saw the rabbit, I just know it’s always been there. And then one of my favorite bands released a remix of one of my favorite songs - it was a Rabbit in the Moon Remix. I thought, ‘cool, they see it too,’ and went on with my life. Then I started to do research for this little project where I write what I am learning about the ancient Mexica and in a moment of, I dunno, I guess what I could call ancestral resonance, I learned that within the Mexica origin story there is indeed a rabbit in the moon. But we’ll get into that.
